His name is pronounced “K-four-9”. K9999’s visual design and special moves are heavily based off of Tetsuo Shima from the 1988 animated film, Akira. To avoid legal action, SNK decided to can K9999 from the series following KOF 2002 and later replaced him with Nameless in The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match.
