What replaced aims?
Earlier today, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT) as the new statewide test. The assessment will be given to Arizona students in 3rd grade through high school this spring and will replace the AIMS test in reading, writing and math.
Do AzMERIT scores matter?
In the future, scores will be delivered before the end of the school year. AzMERIT tests do not impact GPA, high school graduation, or college entrance. Parents and teachers need multiple ways to know how a child is doing academically.
What happens if you fail AzMERIT in high school?
Students take a series of tests for which they have no responsibility. If they ace it, no reward. If they fail it miserably, no accountability. Kids will move to the next grade or graduate high school no matter what they do on the test.
