Yes this use of off is normal and accepted usage. However, it is almost entirely encountered in technical or contractual documents – particularly purchase orders. It is not commonly encountered in normal speech. You do occasionally come across the cumbersome “I need two off of those cables”.
Is it free of or free from?
In each case, the phrase “free of” means “clear of,” “untainted by,” or simply “without.” In contrast, “free from” suggests “liberated from” or “no longer oppressed by.”
What is the possessive form of anyone?
With a compound word or phrase, form the possessive by adding an apostrophe and an –s to the last word. Add an apostrophe and an –s to form the possessive of the pronouns anyone, anybody, everyone, everybody, someone, somebody, no one, and nobody. Anyone’s guess is as good as mine.

Is off of proper grammar?
“Off of” is well-established as standard in American English. Plain “off” may be stylistically preferable in many cases, but it is simply not a rule of English grammar that if a word could be removed it must be removed. Some people seem to think that such a rule exists. It does not.
Who that which grammar rules?

Why do engineers use off instead of of?
